The Edge Productions and Gangway! Theatre Co. are going to be collaborating on 2 productions a year, starting this year!
Miriam Goldstein of The Edge and Blythe Haynes of Gangway! believe that theatre can often be very insular and isolated from the theatrical community outside of the city you work in. Gangway! Theatre Co, like the Edge, focuses on telling stories with unique voices and perspectives.
This past year, co-founders of Gangway! KT Bryski and Blythe Haynes, debuted their flagship show Six Stories, Told At Night to great acclaim at the Toronto Fringe Festival. As a project that morphed from an audio-drama podcast into a full length play, it showcased their interest in creating content that brings together and blends communities. 2018 saw them marry the world of speculative fiction and theatre with Six Stories, build a production of The Snow Queen performed at a museum and successfully present a fundraiser mash-up The Nutcracker Messiah. These projects shine as examples of Gangway!’s commitment to working with the spectrum of communities that art is created in. Their passion for telling female focused stories fits perfectly The Edge Productions, making Pregnancy Pact a fantastic beginning to their new collaboration!
This exciting musical will start with a limited run in Windsor before moving to Toronto for a more extended run! Gangway! is delighted to collaborate with The Edge in bringing this deeply empathetic and hard hitting musical about a high-school pregnancy pact back to Canada. Previously produced by The Edge Productions in 2017 and performed in Windsor with an entirely student cast, Pregnancy Pact is back for a professional run in May of 2019. This is Pregnancy Pacts professional Canadian Premiere.
Coming back from the 2017 cast:
Samantha Bourque as Maddie
Miranda DiPietro as Brynn
& Sean Sennett as Corey/Justin
Pregnancy Pact is a pop-rock musical which tells the story of a group of teens who make a pact to become single mothers together. The 15-year-old Maddie is devoted to her three best friends and they are to her. So, when Brynn gets pregnant, the friends all plan to have children, raising them together and living a dream. Inspired by the 2008 news story of the Gloucester pregnancy pact that took the world by storm, Pregnancy Pact provides a unique chance to examine the intense journey this kind of decision creates.
