An actor met a playwright, and the rest is history!
Gangway! Theatre Co. is a new independent theatre company established by Toronto-based artists Blythe Haynes (actor/producer) and KT Bryski (novelist/playwright). The creative duo first met working at Black Creek Pioneer Village, where they jointly proposed and established the “History Actor” museum theatre program. Longstanding collaborators, they joined forces on a series of podcasted audio dramas, culminating in the original podcast release of Six Stories, Told at Night (written by KT Bryski and performed by Blythe Haynes; funded by the Ontario Arts Council), for which it won a Parsec Award (the “Oscars of Podcasting”) in 2017.
The partnership between co-founders KT Bryski and Blythe Haynes demonstrates their interest of interdisciplinary exposure and collaboration. They have spent their careers exploring theatre as a means to connect, inform, and engage audiences. Gangway! is committed to bringing women’s stories to life and providing a safe harbour for local artists to pursue their craft. Their love of site-specific content, dabbling in the fantastical and plays by female and Canadian playwrights inspires them to bring unfamiliar stories and spaces to life, and to lift up voices too often unheard.
